A Shining Rabbit Hole

All work and no play certainly makes Tommy a dull boy, but in talking with a friend today I was reminded of a rabbit hole I went down about The Shining.

It should be common knowledge that the Overlook Hotel in The Shining is based on a real hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Like the overlook, The Stanley is more of a seasonal hotel. Unlike the Overlook, the Stanley had a team of paranormal investigators on its payroll for a while and leaned into that. That, however, needs its own article…

On Ghosts

A pair of video essays asserting that there are not, in fact, any ghosts in the Overlook Hotel throughout The Shining. I don’t know if I agree or disagree with his conclusions, but it’s fascinating to consider and sound in its logic.
